ROCKS AND WEATHERING

Pupils have the opportunity to handle a variety of different rocks in the classroom, before going on to carry out a scratch test and a permeability test on four rocks in particular. Through these tests, pupils discover how weathering takes place, and which rock types are most likely to weather. They then have a chance to look at the gravestones and memorials in the park (erected between 1841 and 1966) and investigate this process first hand.
