TOWER BUILDING

This is a Team building exercise which takes place in a large hall or gym. Teams of about 10 students compete to construct the tallest tower. The towers are built with newspaper rods which are joined together with wire or plastic ties. The rods are made by first loosely rolling newspapers into tubes and then coating the seams with dilute wall paper paste. Each tube is then placed in a ‘STIXX mangle’. Students turn the mangle handle which tightens the tube producing a rigid rod. Once completed Towers are judged for their design, stability and height. Feedback is given to students regarding these features and on how they have worked together as a team.
